Hiking
In the past, residents of Kalymnos were compelled to go through mountain trails during the winter to avoid harsh weather at sea. These routes have been conserved to this day and are ideal for trekking while admiring the spectacular sea view. There are over 210 mountaineering paths, many of which have markings at the start and conclusion of the trek. If you are a newbie, you may begin with the simple routes that are sufficient. For example, follow the way from village Arginonta on an easy 7-kilometer trip, smell the exquisite scents of herbs and thyme, meet goats and sheep, and enjoy this amazing color, the deep blue of the sea and the blue of the sky, until you arrive at the village of Vathi.

In addition to hiking, Kalymnos visitors may enjoy mountain biking. For this sort of adventure, there are several dirt and asphalt routes accessible. Beginner cyclists can take the route from village Emporio to the northwestern point of the island, where they can admire the panorama and the adjacent island of Leros. You may take a swim on the secluded beach and truly feel like you’ve been shipwrecked. The most experienced cyclists can explore the route that begins in Pothia (capital city) and finishes at the Monastery of Agia Aikaterini and finally at the cave of Kefala with an amazing view.
